Pre-AP Unsolved Mysteries Research Paper
Using the MYP Global Contexts of orientation in time and place, let's discover a mystery that is unsolved and use those persuasive writing skills to convince a reader that you have solved the mystery using credible sources. Our inquiry questions that we will concentrate on are as follows: Why is research valuable? How do you evaluate sources for reliability and credibility? How and why do you use parenthetical citations and Works Cited? What is plagiarism and what are the consequences for the offense? This unit will walk students through the research process, preparing them for their college classes, from analyzing sources and using MLA for Works Cited and parenthetical citations to creating outlines, forming a solid argument, and avoiding plagiarism. This unit will not only make students better writers, but will also give them those critical thinking skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. It is very important for students to complete every task given as I have broken each part of this process into manageable pieces. With this unit comes one of our MYP assessments for the researched essay. Not only will students receive a letter grade in my class, they will also receive an MYP score that will be recorded and turned into IB.
