"I am not what I am" --Iago (1.1.71)
In this unit, we will focus on secrets and deceptions by analyzing the many characters in Othello, especially Iago and Othello himself. Through the MYP global context of identities and relationships, we will use the inquiry questions of how does it feel when you have been lied to or deceived and how does a single story affect Othello? Easily one of my favorite Shakespearean tragedies, Othello will definitely spark some interesting conversations about race, cultural assimilation, manipulation, gender roles, and jealousy. With these topics, we will delve into the nerdy and oh-so-wonderful elements of tragedy, dramatic irony, and use of character foils.
